NNPCL Denies Ending Naira Crude Deal with Dangote Refinery(petroleumprice.ng)

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed claims circulating in a viral video that its petrol burns faster than Dangote’s, calling the allegations misleading and baseless.

In a statement released on Saturday, NNPCL’s spokesperson, Olufemi Soneyep, clarified that a significant percentage of the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) sold at NNPC retail stations in Lagos is sourced from the Dangote Refinery.

“The fuel being compared in the video is from the same source, making the claims deceptive and misleading,” NNPCL stated.

    The Viral Controversy

A content creator posted a video online claiming he bought:

    • Dangote petrol from MRS in Alapere for ₦925
    • NNPC petrol from Ojodu Berger for ₦945

He then poured each into separate power generators and alleged that:

    • The generator using NNPC fuel stopped after 17 minutes
    • The one using Dangote fuel lasted for 33 minutes

This led to widespread claims that NNPC petrol burns faster, sparking consumer concerns.

    NNPC: The Claims Are False

NNPCL strongly refuted the claims, stating:

“This assertion is entirely unfounded and based on amateur, unverified experiments that lack credibility.”

The company assured Nigerians that its fuel meets strict industry standards for efficiency, durability, and environmental safety.

“Our products are carefully refined to deliver the best performance. We do not compromise on quality,” the statement added.

Why NNPC and Dangote Fuel Are the Same

NNPCL revealed that a large portion of the fuel sold at its stations in Lagos is supplied by the Dangote Refinery.

“The same PMS sold at Dangote-affiliated stations is also supplied to NNPC stations. The claims in the viral video are, therefore, misleading and unfounded.”

    NNPC Warns Against Fake News

The company condemned the spread of misinformation and warned that it will take legal action against individuals or groups attempting to tarnish its image.

“We will not tolerate deliberate misinformation designed to mislead Nigerians. Those engaged in such activities will be held accountable.”

NNPC urged the public to rely on verified sources for accurate information instead of viral content designed to cause panic.

    Key Takeaways for Nigerians

    • No Quality Difference – NNPC and Dangote fuel in Lagos come from the same source.
    • Price Variations Exist – Fuel prices differ across stations due to logistics and market factors.
    • Verify Information – Consumers should rely on official statements and industry reports rather than viral social media claims.

NNPCL reassured Nigerians that it remains committed to fuel availability, affordability, and quality, ensuring that all petroleum products meet global standards.
