Nigeria’s average pump price for Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) declined by 11.18 per cent year-on-year, according to new data from the National Bureau of Statistics.
The figures released in the October 2025 Petrol Price Watch Report show that the price of a litre of petrol fell from ₦1,184.83 in October 2024 to ₦1,052.31 in October 2025.
However, prices increased month-on-month. The NBS noted that the retail cost rose by 8.42 per cent compared to the ₦970.59 recorded in September 2025.
States With Highest and Lowest Prices
Petrol remained most expensive in:
- Kogi — ₦1,110.00
- Sokoto — ₦1,105.93
- Borno — ₦1,101.63
The lowest retail prices were recorded in:
- Oyo — ₦1,001.79
- Nasarawa — ₦1,009.38
- Abia — ₦1,012.50
Regional data shows that the North-East averaged the highest price at ₦1,072.74, while the South-West recorded the lowest average at ₦1,032.81 per litre.
Diesel Prices Also Decline Slightly
The bureau also released its October 2025 Diesel Price Watch, which shows that the average price per litre of diesel stood at ₦1,398.57.
This represents a 2.96 per cent decline from the ₦1,441.28 recorded in October 2024.
Similar to petrol, diesel prices increased month-on-month, rising 9.45 per cent from ₦1,277.81 in September 2025.
State and Regional Diesel Price Breakdown
States with the highest diesel pump prices include:
- Enugu — ₦1,468.29
- Niger — ₦1,465.69
- Jigawa — ₦1,437.40
The lowest average prices were recorded in:
- Katsina — ₦1,301.24
- Edo — ₦1,307.84
- Kebbi — ₦1,308.94
Regionally, the South-East recorded the highest price at ₦1,415.85, while the South-South posted the lowest at ₦1,387.18 per litre.
