The Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) has praised the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) for successfully operating the Port Harcourt Refinery non-stop for 180 days.
Joseph Obele, PETROAN’s National Public Relations Officer, shared this in a statement on Tuesday. He also thanked the local communities for supporting the refinery’s repair work.
“The refinery was shut down for over 20 years. It reopened in October 2024 and has been working without a break until March 2025. This shows how well the repair project was done,” Obele said.
He added that PETROAN members are now collecting diesel and kerosene from the refinery, while NNPC Ltd.’s retail marketers are picking up petrol. This has ensured a steady supply of fuel and stopped fake kerosene and diesel from spreading in the market.
Obele also gave special thanks to Ibrahim Onoja, the Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company, for his great leadership and hard work. He praised President Bola Tinubu for providing the money needed to fix the refinery, as well as the Federal Government and NNPC Ltd. for their efforts to bring it back to life.
According to Obele, this success will boost Nigeria’s energy security, economy, and job opportunities.
