The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has introduced a new Production Monitoring Command Centre (PMCC) to enhance real-time tracking of oil and gas production and transportation.
This cutting-edge system, announced on Wednesday via X (formerly Twitter), aims to improve operational efficiency and address major challenges in the oil and gas industry.
The PMCC offers a centralised platform that monitors production activities across the country in real-time, using advanced technologies to integrate data and processes seamlessly.
Key Benefits of the PMCC
- Real-Time Monitoring: The PMCC collects data from all operators, providing a unified view of production and transportation. This helps detect issues quickly, avoid disruptions, and ensure smooth operations.
- Better Decision-Making: With advanced analytics, stakeholders can plan proactively, manage risks effectively, and improve results.
- Improved Maintenance: The PMCC supports predictive and preventive maintenance, reducing downtime and boosting reliability.
- Enhanced Collaboration: It creates a secure space for stakeholders to share data, solve problems efficiently, and improve overall operations.
- Increased Revenue: By minimising delays and optimising planning, the PMCC helps increase production output and revenue.
Background
NNPC Ltd has been making efforts to combat oil theft and increase transparency in the sector. In 2022, NNPC introduced a camera surveillance system to monitor oil production sites across Nigeria. This system has been effective in identifying suspicious activities and reducing marine theft with the support of the Nigerian Navy.
Recently, NNPC announced that Nigeria’s crude oil production had risen to 1.8 million barrels per day, while natural gas production reached 7.4 billion standard cubic feet daily.
Additionally, the Nigerian Army has deployed six military-grade gunboats to combat oil theft and piracy in Rivers State, further securing the industry and boosting production.
This latest innovation by NNPC is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s oil and gas operations, fostering collaboration and ensuring steady progress in the sector.
