Petroleumprice.ng has named MRS Oil Nigeria Plc as Fuel Retail Station of the Year at the inaugural Petroleum Prize, Recognition and Awards 2025. The award recognises outstanding performance across Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector. It is based on a structured evaluation of pricing, supply reliability, consumer service, and market development.
Petroleum Prize: Purpose and Process
Launched in 2025, the Petroleum Prize evaluates downstream operators whose actions influence fuel pricing, availability, consumer experience, and sector stability.
The award uses a weighted scoring system. Specifically, 60 per cent of the score comes from downstream sector participants, including marketers, depot operators, transporters, and end-users. The remaining 40 per cent is assessed by four independent judges, each contributing equally. These judges focus on measurable impact, consistency, and contributions to market stability.
MRS’s Performance Across Key Indicators
MRS led the rankings based on six areas: pricing, customer service, coverage, product quality, availability, and pump integrity and safety.
- Pricing (90%): The company consistently offered competitive pump prices nationwide. Its supply partnership with Dangote Petroleum Refinery allowed it to pass supply efficiencies to consumers.
- Customer Service (80%): Feedback highlighted orderly forecourts, clear pricing information, and responsive station staff.
- Coverage (90%): Reliable supply from Dangote Refinery supported MRS’s expansion across urban centres, peri-urban areas, and major transport corridors.
- Product Quality (85%): Fuel supplied through Dangote Refinery meets Nigeria’s quality standards. This ensures consistent engine performance and product integrity.
- Availability (90%): MRS maintained stock even during supply tightness. This reduced dependence on imports and minimized logistics disruptions.
- Pump Integrity and Safety (80%): Judges and participants rated MRS highly for accurate dispensing, functional meters, and adherence to safety standards.
The recognition highlights MRS’s performance across key operational and consumer-focused indicators. Furthermore, the Petroleum Prize aims to create a data-backed, user-driven benchmark for Nigeria’s downstream sector. By tracking depot prices, retail trends, and supply dynamics nationwide, the award reflects sustained market impact and serves as a reference for operational excellence. It also reinforces performance-based recognition anchored on measurable outcomes and broad user participation.
