Mallam Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has shared his remarkable story of rising from an Almajiri school to leading Africa’s largest energy company.
Marking his 60th birthday, Kyari took to his social media platform, X (@MKKyari), to express gratitude for his life’s journey. He acknowledged the role of Allah’s grace in his achievements and thanked Nigeria for the opportunities that helped him succeed despite humble beginnings.
A Journey of Struggles and Triumphs
Reflecting on his life, Kyari described it as a mix of challenges and victories. He highlighted the sacrifices and support from his family, teachers, and colleagues, acknowledging their contributions to his growth.
“Allah, by His grace, spared my life to see this exceptional day, my 60th birthday,” Kyari wrote. “I am deeply thankful to my country for enabling my journey from an Almajiri school pupil to the CEO of Africa’s largest energy company.”
He also took the moment to seek forgiveness from anyone he may have hurt unintentionally, emphasising humility and a commitment to service.
A Commitment to Serve Nigeria
Kyari pledged to continue serving Nigeria with greater dedication. He expressed appreciation for the trust placed in him by former President Muhammadu Buhari and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, crediting their support for his leadership at NNPCL.
His tenure has been marked by significant milestones, including the revival of two refineries, boosting oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day, and increasing domestic natural gas consumption.
