The President of Dangote Refinery, Aliko Dangote, stated that his refinery could resolve Nigeria’s persistent fuel queues. Speaking to State House correspondents on Tuesday, Dangote urged the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and fuel marketers to cease fuel imports, noting that his refinery could fully meet local demand.
“What I estimated as our consumption daily is about 30-32 million litres,” Dangote said. “We can even start producing that by next week. That is not really an issue because, as we speak, we have 500 million litres in our tanks. With that, even if there’s no production or import, it would take the country more than 12 days.”
Emphasising his refinery’s readiness, Dangote added, “I am expecting that NNPCL and the marketers should stop importing; they should come and collect what they need. I don’t know if you understand what it means to keep half a billion litres in our tanks—it’s costing me money. Every day, if I were to collect, I could charge 32 percent in interest. That’s what I am losing. If they come and collect, you will not see any queue in the filling stations.”
