A viral video by Nigerian content creator Lucky Udu, which has gained 1.7 million views and 20,000 reactions, is raising awareness about a serious safety issue in Nigerian homes, gas explosions caused by unnoticed leaks from cylinders. In the video, Udu explains that gas leaks are the leading cause of these dangerous incidents and shows a simple way to detect them.

According to Udu, many gas explosions happen because people do not realise their gas cylinders are leaking. “If a leakage is not detected, it can easily lead to a gas explosion,” he warns in the video. With more Nigerian households using gas for cooking, experts say it is crucial to raise awareness and prevent these accidents.

To help people check for leaks, Udu demonstrates a simple method using soapy water. He mixes detergent with water and applies it to the cylinder valve, the part most likely to leak. “Spread the soapy water around the valve,” Udu says while showing the process on a gas cylinder. “If bubbles start forming, it means your gas is leaking.”

The video clearly shows foam appearing around the valve, proving that gas is escaping. Udu highlights that this easy method requires no special tools, just a little caution and regular checks. “This is the first thing you should do if you have a gas cylinder,” he advises.

Gas explosions in Nigeria are often caused by poor maintenance, low-quality cylinders, or lack of knowledge about gas safety. Udu’s video has sparked conversations online, with many people praising the method and calling for more public education on gas safety.

As more Nigerians use gas daily, experts recommend regular leak checks and immediate action if a problem is found. Udu’s viral video serves as both a warning and a simple solution, helping Nigerians protect their homes from gas explosions.
