As part of the Federal Government’s Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), Lagos residents have a unique opportunity to convert their vehicles to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at no cost on Friday, September 13. This initiative is a significant step towards reducing Nigeria’s dependency on petrol and promoting cleaner, more affordable fuel alternatives.
Announced by Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, via his official X account (formerly Twitter), the program encourages Lagosians to take advantage of this cost-saving conversion. The event will be held from 3 pm to 6 pm across six designated locations in Lagos under the “Operation First Come, First Serve” initiative.

The first 50 vehicles at each location that meet the necessary inspection requirements will receive free CNG conversion kits. Once converted, vehicle owners can refuel with CNG at just N230 per Standard Cubic Meter (SCM) at any NIPCO station, a substantial saving when compared to current petrol prices.
Here are the six locations where vehicle owners can access this free conversion service:
Femadec
Km 42, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Majek Second Gate Stop, Abijo Ibeju, Lekki, Lagos.
Portland
No. 1, Ojota Interchange Terminal, Bayo Shodipo, Ojota, Lagos.

The PCNGi will extend its free CNG conversion exercise to other cities this weekend. On Friday, September 13, the program will also take place in Abeokuta and Ibadan, while similar events will be held in Abuja and Kaduna on Saturday, September 14. As with Lagos, the first 50 vehicles at each location that pass the inspection will receive complimentary CNG kits.
This initiative is intended to drive Nigeria’s efforts for more sustainable fuel options and lower energy costs for the public in line with the government’s long-term energy transition goals.
