The Federal Government has announced a ban on 60,000-litre fuel tankers from operating on Nigerian roads, effective March 1, 2025. This decision, communicated by the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), aims to enhance road safety and protect infrastructure.
The NMDPRA emphasised that the ban is part of broader efforts to regulate the transportation of petroleum products and ensure compliance with safety standards. Operators are encouraged to transition to tankers that meet the prescribed safety and capacity guidelines before the enforcement date.
In addition to the ban, the government addressed recent claims regarding the quality of fuel in circulation. The NMDPRA dismissed these allegations, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining the quality of petroleum products across the country. The agency assured the public that all products meet the required specifications and that stringent monitoring mechanisms are in place to uphold these standards.
This move underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring the safety of road users and the integrity of Nigeria’s transportation infrastructure, while also maintaining the quality of fuel available to consumers.
