Dangote Petroleum Refinery will begin distributing petrol and diesel nationwide from August 15, 2025. The initiative marks a major shift in Nigeria’s downstream oil sector.
The refinery will supply fuel directly to petrol stations, marketers, manufacturers, telecom firms, aviation companies, and other bulk consumers. To support this, Dangote has deployed 4,000 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) trucks and will add 100 booster trailers to improve last-mile delivery.
“This initiative is designed to cut logistics costs, reduce distribution delays, and improve fuel availability,” the company said in its statement.
Industry expert and CEO of Petroleumprice.ng, Olatide Jeremiah, praised the move.
“This is one of the biggest transformations in the history of the downstream sector. I commend this initiative by Dangote Refinery as it will reduce abnormal middlemen cost and drive down fuel prices to consumers. The old era of manipulative pricing is gone,” he said.
Marketers to Access Fuel Credit
Marketers who buy at least 500,000 litres will qualify for an extra 500,000 litres on credit, backed by a simple bank guarantee. The refinery introduced this facility to ease working capital pressure and encourage bulk purchases.
Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and rural stations will also benefit from improved access and better pricing.
Fuel Station Network to See Lower Costs
Retail outlets purchasing directly from the refinery will benefit from efficient logistics and lower fuel prices. The initiative will help reduce inflation and cut production costs in the manufacturing, transport, and telecom sectors.
“This is a clear step towards building a transparent, sustainable supply chain,” Dangote said.
Registration Opens June 16
The company will open registration on June 16, with KYC verification running through August 15. All marketers, retailers, manufacturers, and large buyers must complete registration within the 60-day window to join the programme.
Part of Tinubu’s Energy Reform Agenda
Dangote said the plan aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises affordability, inclusion, and long-term fuel security.
The refinery called the move “a historic milestone” and urged industry players to embrace the opportunity. The effort aims to stabilise supply, reduce import reliance, and boost economic growth across the downstream sector.
