Dangote Petroleum Refinery has begun exporting its refined products to international markets in Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.
This was revealed by Mr Ayirioritse Okerentie, Deputy Regional Director of Dangote Cement, during the company’s Special Day at the 36th Enugu International Trade Fair.
Exports in progress
Okerentie said that the refinery has started shipping out aviation fuel, naphtha, Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), and Automotive Gas Oil (AGO). He explained that the move supports Nigeria’s growth by positioning the refinery as a major player in the global oil market.
Local manufacturing of raw materials
In addition to exports, Okerentie shared that the Dangote Petrochemical Complex has started producing polypropylene. This is a key material used in making textiles, plastics, furniture, and pharmaceutical products. The goal is to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported materials.
Infrastructure and road work
The company also continues to invest in national infrastructure. It has reconstructed major roads like the Obajana-Kabba Road and the Apapa-Oshodi-Oworonshoki Expressway in Lagos. Work is ongoing on the Ibeju-Lekki Expressway, which is being rebuilt with concrete for better durability.
Sugar, agriculture, and future plans
Dangote Sugar is also working to reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported sugar. Through its Sugar Backward Integration Programme, the company plans to improve local sugar production.
Okerentie added that Dangote is investing in agriculture to support food security, and new farm products will soon be introduced to the Nigerian market.
What this means
In March, Dangote Refinery began producing polypropylene at a rate of 830,000 metric tonnes per year. Industry experts believe this can revive Nigeria’s struggling textile sector and help the country become a net exporter of industrial raw materials, easing pressure on foreign exchange reserves.
