The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has urged troops of the 6 Division Nigerian Army to strengthen their efforts in combating oil theft. He stressed that improving crude oil production is crucial for Nigeria’s economic growth.
In a statement by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the COAS made these remarks during a visit to the troops in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, 24 December 2024.
Lieutenant General Oluyede described Nigeria’s current crude oil output as unacceptable and called on the soldiers to work harder to create a safe environment for oil production. He also warned against involvement in corruption or aiding criminals, stating that those caught would face strict legal consequences.
The COAS emphasised the importance of professionalism and integrity in their duties. He assured the troops of his commitment to improving their welfare and providing the necessary tools for better performance.
He reminded the soldiers that they play a vital role in supporting the government’s efforts to stabilise the economy and called on them to serve with dedication and honesty.
This call comes as part of the army’s ongoing efforts to address oil theft and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region.
